Mayfest - May 12 - 16

Always the week before the May Lions Club Bluegrass Festival. For more information call Linda Bass at 770-773-3281. This year Mayfest will feature:

* Monday, Gary Greene, "The Great Imagineer" - 7 PM at City Hall, a program of Appalachian songs and stories gathered from his early childhood. Mr Greene's CD's will also be available for purchase for $10.

* Tuesday, Kanahiski the storyteller, and Mary - 7PM at City Hall, a program of traditional Cherokee legends told in period costume.

* Wednesday, Lunch & Learn - Basketweaving - 11:30 AM at the Sans Souci Clubhouse on Railroad Street just across from the Depot. Margie Hufstetler will conduct a class in basketweaving. Participants will be able to make their own basket. Lunch will be served to participants. There is a $10 fee charged for basketweaving materials. Must sign up by Monday, May 12. Call Linda Bass at 770-773-3281 to register.

* Thursday, History of the Dixie Highway - 7 PM at the Depot Museum, Abbie Tucker Parks, co-author of the book "North Georgia's Dixie Highway", will speak about her book and the history of the Dixie Highway, the first interstate highway to link the American South to the urban North. Mrs. Parks will speak about the rise of tourism, businesses, and the chenille industry along the route which ran right through the middle of Adairsville. There will also be copies of the 200 page pictorial book available for purchase for $20.

* Friday, Outdoor Concert featuring the Outback Band - 7 PM - 9 PM at the Log Town stage. Adairsville's own Outback Band will perform their brand of music which includes country, southern rock, and blues classics. Concessions will be available for purchase, including hamburgers, hotdogs, funnel cakes, and beverages. Bleacher seating is available, but concert goers may bring their own chairs or spread blankets on the grass.

* Lions Club Bluegrass Festival - Saturday, May 17th 11 AM - 6 PM,

just off the Square in the Logtown area. Featured acts to be announced. Admission is free but donations will be gladly accepted. Bleacher seating or bring your lawn chair. Food and drinks will be sold. Interested talent should call Truett Grogan at 770-773-2822.

* Great Locomotive Chase Festival - first weekend (Fri – Sun), in October, each year. This year October 3-5.

* Great Locomotive Chase Festival Parade - Saturday of the Festival– October 4th - 11AM - 12 Noon,

downtown. Everyone welcome. For more information call Adairsville City Hall at 770-773-3451.

* Festival Day at the Depot - Fri, Sat. of the Festival - Oct. 3-4.

Featuring:

>Friday 10 AM to 3 PM- Open house at the Adairsville Rail Depot Museum, a restored 1847 railroad depot which now houses a small but interesting museum and a Welcome Center.

>Saturday 10AM to 3 PM - Olde Tyme Craft demonstrations, to be listed as they are added to the program. Crafters will be in historic costume. Admission is free both days. Everyone welcome. Those interested in doing craft demonstrations (selling allowed) contact Jerri Holloway at 770-773-1775 no later than Sept.1st. Must be your own handmades.

* Lions Club Bluegrass Festival - Saturday in early November (date to be announced) noon 'til 6 PM

just off the Square in the Logtown area. Audience is welcome to bring instruments for Open-mike finale. Admission is free. Bleacher seating or bring your lawn chair, food and drinks will be sold. Interested talent should call Truett Grogan at 770-773-2822.

* Christmas on the Square, first weekend in December.

Lighting of the city Christmas tree. Shop our stores and bring the kids to have their photo made with Santa at the Depot. Everyone welcome. For more information contact Adairsville City Hall at 770-773-3451.

* Christmas at the Depot - Early December (times and dates to be announced)

Choirs, dancers, nativities,and more. Free admission. Everyone welcome.

Driving Directions:

leave Interstate 75 at the 306 exit. Proceed West on Highway 140. Go straight at the light, across US Hwy. 41, to next left (Main Street). Left on Main approximately ½ mile to Public Square. Note: Public Square is one-way, northbound on upper level, and southbound on lower level.

– restored turn of the (20th) century buildings, restored rail depot building housing a small but interesting museum/photo gallery, and a Welcome Center where you can find information on local as well as area offerings.

* 1902 Stock Exchange

– Tea room, dinner theater, antiques, and more in a restored 1902 building on the Square in Adairsville.

* Barnsley Gardens

– resort, spa, museum, and restaurant on the grounds of a Civil War era plantation. On Barnsley Gardens Road, just off Hall Station Road, south of Adairsville.

visit the Adairsville Welcome Center (a division of the Bartow County Convention and Visitors Bureau), located in the Depot, on the Square. There you will find information on area shops, motels, restaurants, factories, real estate, and much, much more. While you’re there, don’t forget to visit the Depot Museum. “Welcome” is more than just a word to us, it’s our privilege.
